Getting help for anxiety starts with educating yourself about anxiety and knowing that you are not alone; there are 40 million people in America suffering from severe anxiety or an anxiety disorder. This means that 18% of the US population is currently suffering from anxiety. Ninety-five percent of these individuals are from the ages of 18 to 59 and women are 60% more likely to experience an anxiety disorder. Unfortunately, only 1/3 of those suffering from an anxiety disorder will ever get treatment, which means, 28% of the individuals currently living with anxiety will never get treatment and will live their entire life with anxiety. Education on anxiety symptoms, anxiety causes, and understanding if you have anxiety and ways the anxiety cycle starts are the first keys to recovery. With thorough knowledge in anxiety, you can begin to determine whether it is just anxiety or in fact an anxiety disorder. The primary anxiety disorder categories are generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic/anxiety attacks (panic disorder), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and phobias. Each one of these disorders has a set of specific triggers and symptoms that can leave someone in an anxiety disorder cycle.
