In Canada, the biggest deal day of the year has always been Boxing Day. But other the last few years, one upstart competitor from south of the border has been on the rise: Black Friday.

This happened partly by necessity as Canadians would head to the United States to hunt for bargains. Canadian retailers, like Furniture.ca, didn’t want to be left out of the fun.

To mark Black Friday, we wanted to show how much Canadians are embracing this new shopping by researching Canadian buyer behaviour. We also wanted to make sure that Canadians considered doing their shopping closer to home this year.

The use of plaid in the design plays on the stereotype of Canadians as plaid-wearing lumberjacks (of course in a more modern form). And red was selected because it’s the colour of Canada’s flag. The end result is an infographic that lets Canadians know how their fellow Canadians will be spending their time in a fun and interesting way.
